62) It Follows

It Follows is a 2015 horror film written and directed by David Robert Mitchell and starring Maika Monroe, Keir Gilchrist, and Olivia Luccardi. The premise is what if a curse could be an STD?

[00:00:29] Welcome back to Casabloga. In this episode, I am talking about It Follows, which is a 2015 horror movie written and directed by David Robert Mitchell and starring Micah Monroe, Keir Gilchrist, and Olivia Lucardi.

[00:00:47] Basically, the premise of this movie, it's a little weird. It's basically, what if a ghost could be an STD? And that's basically the whole premise.

[00:01:11] And there's all these different ghost movies, like The Ring, where you watch a videotape and then suddenly you're haunted. You have seven days to live or you die.

[00:01:24] And then, or you show someone else the tape and then you're free of the curse and Samara goes after them.

[00:01:34] And then, there's other things like that.

[00:01:39] It Follows is similar, except there's no time limit.

[00:01:44] Once you sleep with somebody, they transmit it to you. It stops following them.

[00:01:50] And now, It Follows you.

[00:01:53] And basically, you can just keep outrunning this thing forever, indefinitely.

[00:02:00] It, as it's pointed out in the movie, it's slow, but it walks.

[00:02:05] It walks. It's always pursuing you, but it's always walking.

[00:02:11] So, if you can drive far enough away, you can have plenty of time to, like, think of a plan on what you're gonna do next.

[00:02:21] Like, fly to the other side of the world.

[00:02:25] It never really addresses in the movie if it can cross water.

[00:02:28] I mean, like, it goes into the pool at the end.

[00:02:32] But, like, could it swim across the ocean?

[00:02:38] Like, for example, say you're in the U.S.

[00:02:41] And then you fly to Scotland.

[00:02:46] And then you have however long it takes for it to cross the ocean.

[00:02:51] If it can cross the ocean.

[00:02:53] Does it get on a boat?

[00:02:54] I don't know if anything can swim across that.

[00:03:01] Of course, it gets shot in the head a few times in the movie.

[00:03:06] And it keeps going.

[00:03:07] It slows it down.

[00:03:09] But then it gets right back up.

[00:03:12] So, I don't know how it would work in the ocean.

[00:03:18] Or maybe...

[00:03:21] Okay, I just realized something.

[00:03:23] I said start in the U.S., go to Scotland.

[00:03:26] The Atlantic Ocean isn't that big.

[00:03:30] Start in the U.S., go to Japan.

[00:03:35] The Pacific Ocean is massive.

[00:03:39] It would take years, maybe, for it to cross.

[00:03:44] And then when you see it...

[00:03:45] Well, maybe not...

[00:03:47] Well...

[00:03:48] Maybe not Tokyo.

[00:03:49] I was going to say...

[00:03:50] Japan is overcrowded.

[00:03:52] But, like, Japan...

[00:03:53] I mean, Tokyo.

[00:03:53] I've seen videos from Tokyo.

[00:03:56] What's funny is...

[00:03:56] In movies, Tokyo...

[00:03:58] It's like you see a few people walking on the streets.

[00:04:00] But I've seen videos of Tokyo.

[00:04:01] And it's literally shoulder to shoulder.

[00:04:03] And it's so packed.

[00:04:04] Like, ah...

[00:04:06] If you see it following you in Tokyo...

[00:04:09] Is it a person?

[00:04:11] Or is it...

[00:04:12] It...

[00:04:14] It would get a little confusing.

[00:04:17] So, maybe one of the least...

[00:04:19] I know that...

[00:04:20] I know not everywhere in Japan is shoulder to shoulder.

[00:04:23] There are less populated places you can go.

[00:04:27] Of course, you also don't have to go to Japan.

[00:04:29] That's just the first thing I thought of.

[00:04:32] China's big.

[00:04:33] Like...

[00:04:33] I'm sure they have wide open areas you can go to.

[00:04:38] I see, like...

[00:04:39] Pictures of, like, mountains and stuff.

[00:04:42] And...

[00:04:42] And...

[00:04:43] And...

[00:04:43] China.

[00:04:44] Like, valleys and...

[00:04:46] All that.

[00:04:47] And you can see them coming for miles.

[00:04:49] You see them, like, lumbering along.

[00:04:52] It's like, oh, who is this person walking through...

[00:04:55] The field towards me?

[00:05:01] And...

[00:05:02] Yeah.

[00:05:05] It is...

[00:05:06] Um...

[00:05:08] I have...

[00:05:09] I don't know if you've noticed.

[00:05:10] I've kind of put...

[00:05:11] I have put a little thought...

[00:05:12] A lot of thought...

[00:05:14] A lot of thought...

[00:05:14] I have put a...

[00:05:15] A lot of thought into how to escape from it.

[00:05:21] Um...

[00:05:24] Because...

[00:05:26] I don't know.

[00:05:27] It's just kind of like a fun thought experiment.

[00:05:29] This thing is always pursuing you.

[00:05:31] How do you escape from it?

[00:05:32] You can't...

[00:05:34] Ever escape from it.

[00:05:35] I...

[00:05:36] There's scenes where she's, like, laying in a hospital.

[00:05:38] And I'm just thinking, like...

[00:05:41] It could break through glass.

[00:05:43] Like, that's not...

[00:05:43] Safe there, either.

[00:05:45] Because, like...

[00:05:47] Yeah.

[00:05:47] Well, nobody can see it.

[00:05:49] Nobody can see it.

[00:05:50] Only you and the people who've had it before.

[00:05:53] And if it kills you, it goes...

[00:05:55] Back down the line...

[00:05:57] To the person before.

[00:05:58] And it kills them to the person before.

[00:06:00] Or...

[00:06:01] And so, like...

[00:06:02] Unlike something like The Ring.

[00:06:04] Where you show them the tape.

[00:06:05] And then you're free for life.

[00:06:07] Unless you watch it again.

[00:06:08] This one...

[00:06:09] You're basically screwed for life.

[00:06:11] Because...

[00:06:12] Say it's, like...

[00:06:13] 15 people down.

[00:06:15] And, like...

[00:06:15] Say you...

[00:06:16] You kept tabs on...

[00:06:18] On everything.

[00:06:19] And, oh, it's 15 people down.

[00:06:21] It's...

[00:06:21] I'm safe.

[00:06:22] But then, like...

[00:06:23] One by one, they all start dying.

[00:06:25] And, like, oh crap.

[00:06:26] It's coming after me.

[00:06:27] Uh...

[00:06:28] So...

[00:06:29] You're never free of this thing.

[00:06:31] Not really.

[00:06:33] Plus, you can still see it.

[00:06:35] Because, um...

[00:06:37] That Jeff guy that gave it to her...

[00:06:39] He says he can still see it.

[00:06:43] But I need to talk about the movie itself.

[00:06:44] Not the hypothetical situation of escaping from it.

[00:06:48] The movie itself...

[00:06:49] Like, I...

[00:06:50] I generally don't like modern horror movies because...

[00:06:54] I think I've said this before on here.

[00:06:55] Like, a lot of them just...

[00:06:57] It's like, blood, guts, gore.

[00:06:58] That's not scary.

[00:07:01] That's...

[00:07:01] That's gross.

[00:07:04] Or they rely on...

[00:07:06] Jump scares.

[00:07:07] Which, again, like...

[00:07:09] You...

[00:07:09] Yeah, you jump in the moment.

[00:07:11] But then...

[00:07:11] You laugh.

[00:07:12] Because it was stupid.

[00:07:15] And it's like, oh, I got scared by that cat.

[00:07:17] Ha ha ha.

[00:07:19] Um...

[00:07:20] This one doesn't rely on that.

[00:07:21] Like, I...

[00:07:21] I was told when it came out...

[00:07:23] Like, I need to watch it because it was really good.

[00:07:25] It was a good horror movie.

[00:07:26] And I was like, eh...

[00:07:27] No.

[00:07:28] I know the premise.

[00:07:30] I know modern horror movies.

[00:07:31] It's gonna be bad.

[00:07:33] Finally, like, a year after it came out in 2016...

[00:07:37] I finally watched it.

[00:07:38] And it became, like, one of my favorite horror movies.

[00:07:43] Not really of all time.

[00:07:45] Um...

[00:07:45] It's like, one of my favorite modern horror movies.

[00:07:48] Which...

[00:07:48] Yeah, again, that's not saying much.

[00:07:50] But it was a really good movie.

[00:07:51] I like it.

[00:07:56] It has, like, very...

[00:08:00] Unique...

[00:08:01] Like, cinematography, I guess.

[00:08:03] The, like...

[00:08:04] The...

[00:08:05] The camera work.

[00:08:06] There are...

[00:08:07] Like, for example, the opening shot.

[00:08:10] It's...

[00:08:11] A long...

[00:08:12] Take.

[00:08:14] But...

[00:08:14] The camera basically just...

[00:08:16] Goes in a circle.

[00:08:17] It's like...

[00:08:17] It's in an actual neighborhood.

[00:08:19] This girl runs out of a house.

[00:08:20] And the camera just, like, goes in a circle while she runs from something you can't see.

[00:08:25] And some of her neighbors and, like, her parents were like...

[00:08:27] Hey, you okay?

[00:08:28] And she's like, I'm fine.

[00:08:31] And it's like...

[00:08:33] I think, like, a two-minute scene.

[00:08:35] It's just one take.

[00:08:37] And she's, like, kind of running around this neighborhood.

[00:08:39] And the camera is just going in a circle.

[00:08:41] It's following her, but it's still going in a circle.

[00:08:44] Because she's kind of running in a circle.

[00:08:46] But something else I was thinking this time.

[00:08:48] Imagine...

[00:08:48] Like...

[00:08:49] We see...

[00:08:50] We see it from the camera's perspective.

[00:08:51] So it makes sense.

[00:08:53] But imagine...

[00:08:55] Actually seeing her doing that.

[00:08:57] Like, she's basically just running in circles.

[00:08:59] You can kind of see why they were asking if she was okay.

[00:09:05] Because, like, we always forget that there's a camera there.

[00:09:08] And so, like, it makes sense from Mark's perspective.

[00:09:11] And so, like, sometimes I try...

[00:09:12] I like to try to think, like...

[00:09:13] What would that actually look like?

[00:09:16] Like...

[00:09:16] To see the person do the thing they did...

[00:09:20] Outside of the camera.

[00:09:22] And sometimes, like...

[00:09:23] Does this make...

[00:09:24] Does this still make sense without a camera being there?

[00:09:27] And in this...

[00:09:28] In this case...

[00:09:28] Well, considering she's running away from this thing...

[00:09:32] I guess it probably does.

[00:09:33] We can't see it.

[00:09:35] We don't actually see it until after...

[00:09:37] The main character, who's played by Micah Monroe...

[00:09:41] Once she gets it transferred to her...

[00:09:44] Then we can see it.

[00:09:46] Up until then, we never see this thing.

[00:09:51] There are several times about this film where the camera just goes in a circle.

[00:09:55] And it kind of reminds me of...

[00:10:00] Rear Window by Alfred Hitchcock.

[00:10:02] And that, like, there's...

[00:10:05] Little scenes where there's, like, long takes of just...

[00:10:09] Panning through the different windows.

[00:10:12] And it sounds boring...

[00:10:14] But so much happens in those shots.

[00:10:18] And it's the same thing here.

[00:10:19] Where, like...

[00:10:20] Every time it goes around...

[00:10:22] Something's going on.

[00:10:23] It looks like the camera is just going in a circle.

[00:10:25] There's this...

[00:10:25] There's this one shot in particular in the high school.

[00:10:29] Where it's just going in a circle.

[00:10:31] The...

[00:10:32] There's something...

[00:10:33] I never even noticed until this time.

[00:10:36] There's...

[00:10:37] Outside the window...

[00:10:38] It's walking closer to the window.

[00:10:41] And I...

[00:10:42] The first time I saw...

[00:10:43] Because this is the third time I saw it.

[00:10:45] Because I saw it when it first came out.

[00:10:47] And then I showed a friend...

[00:10:48] Like, a week later.

[00:10:50] This was back in 2016.

[00:10:51] And I'm watching it now.

[00:10:52] It was on Peacock, by the way.

[00:10:53] It's on Peacock now.

[00:10:55] And...

[00:10:55] Um...

[00:10:56] I didn't notice it until this time.

[00:10:58] That...

[00:10:59] It was walking to the window.

[00:11:02] Whenever...

[00:11:03] In that shot where it's walking...

[00:11:05] Where the camera's moving in a circle.

[00:11:08] The whole...

[00:11:09] The whole time, like...

[00:11:09] It's going in a circle.

[00:11:10] Like, things do have...

[00:11:12] Other than that...

[00:11:13] Like, things are happening in camera.

[00:11:16] And...

[00:11:17] Like, because you see the main characters...

[00:11:18] And, like...

[00:11:21] In, like, an office or something.

[00:11:23] And every time it...

[00:11:24] It sees...

[00:11:24] It shows them...

[00:11:26] You see them doing something else.

[00:11:28] And...

[00:11:28] It makes sense.

[00:11:29] Like, I'm not good at explaining things.

[00:11:32] So you just have to watch it.

[00:11:34] And trust me.

[00:11:39] And this movie...

[00:11:40] Like, it...

[00:11:41] It works well.

[00:11:42] It makes good use of...

[00:11:44] Long takes.

[00:11:45] Like, there's a...

[00:11:46] A scene...

[00:11:48] Where...

[00:11:48] Like, they're at, like, this beach...

[00:11:51] House...

[00:11:52] Thing.

[00:11:52] Maybe...

[00:11:53] Maybe it's a lake.

[00:11:54] I don't know if it's, like, an ocean beach.

[00:11:56] Or if it's a lake beach.

[00:11:57] But they're on a beach.

[00:11:59] And...

[00:12:00] They...

[00:12:01] Um...

[00:12:02] They...

[00:12:02] Well...

[00:12:03] And...

[00:12:03] She sees it.

[00:12:04] And they...

[00:12:05] They...

[00:12:05] They...

[00:12:06] They finally believe her.

[00:12:07] Because, like, they see, like...

[00:12:09] Her hair lift.

[00:12:10] And then, like, one of them...

[00:12:11] Goes to hit a chair.

[00:12:13] They try to hit it with a chair.

[00:12:15] In, like, the empty space.

[00:12:16] Where they assume it is.

[00:12:17] And the chair breaks.

[00:12:18] And then...

[00:12:19] They get pushed away.

[00:12:21] And...

[00:12:21] And they...

[00:12:21] They...

[00:12:22] They...

[00:12:22] I guess...

[00:12:23] They may have believed her before.

[00:12:25] It's kind of like...

[00:12:25] Oh, okay.

[00:12:26] My friend's believing this thing.

[00:12:27] We're just going to go with it.

[00:12:28] But they definitely believe her after that.

[00:12:31] And then...

[00:12:31] She gets in the car.

[00:12:34] And...

[00:12:34] And drives away.

[00:12:36] And there's a long shot of...

[00:12:38] Like, the camera focused on...

[00:12:41] It...

[00:12:41] As the camera's driving away.

[00:12:43] And it's just, like...

[00:12:44] So cool.

[00:12:45] I love...

[00:12:45] I love that for the first time I saw that.

[00:12:47] I was like, this is so unique!

[00:12:50] It's less of an action horror film.

[00:12:53] Which...

[00:12:53] I know that sounds weird.

[00:12:54] Because I told somebody, like...

[00:12:55] It's more of...

[00:12:57] It's not an action horror film.

[00:12:59] And they're like, what do you mean?

[00:13:00] I'm like...

[00:13:00] Because, like, a lot of horror films...

[00:13:03] It's like a lot of...

[00:13:06] Action-y...

[00:13:07] I'm not...

[00:13:08] I don't know how to word it.

[00:13:10] I'm not...

[00:13:11] I can't words...

[00:13:15] Like, take for example...

[00:13:16] The Ring.

[00:13:17] There's a lot going on.

[00:13:19] Like, she's very active...

[00:13:20] At, like...

[00:13:21] Fighting back.

[00:13:23] And, like...

[00:13:23] Researching.

[00:13:25] And...

[00:13:26] There's a lot of...

[00:13:27] Like, every scene, something's happening.

[00:13:29] In this movie...

[00:13:31] It's...

[00:13:31] More of like an...

[00:13:33] Art...

[00:13:34] Film...

[00:13:35] Kind of...

[00:13:35] Thing.

[00:13:36] There's a lot of scenes where they're just sitting around.

[00:13:38] And, like, music's playing.

[00:13:41] And...

[00:13:42] And...

[00:13:43] She basically...

[00:13:44] Um...

[00:13:44] The whole movie, she's basically running from this thing.

[00:13:47] Instead of...

[00:13:47] Trying to fight back.

[00:13:48] She's running from this thing.

[00:13:50] They don't fight back until the end.

[00:13:52] And it's her friend...

[00:13:54] That...

[00:13:54] This...

[00:13:54] Them...

[00:13:55] Who decides...

[00:13:56] Like, hey, I have an idea.

[00:13:57] I've had to fight back.

[00:13:59] And then...

[00:13:59] She...

[00:14:00] Even...

[00:14:00] Like...

[00:14:01] She's in the pool.

[00:14:02] Trying...

[00:14:02] They're trying to lure this thing to her.

[00:14:04] And she's like...

[00:14:05] I...

[00:14:05] I want to get out.

[00:14:06] I don't want to do this.

[00:14:07] So, like...

[00:14:09] She's not actively trying to fight back.

[00:14:11] Which...

[00:14:11] I think it's a good thing.

[00:14:12] Because, like...

[00:14:13] You see all these movies where, like...

[00:14:15] They're being pursued by something.

[00:14:16] There's, like...

[00:14:17] A...

[00:14:17] A monster coming after them.

[00:14:19] And they just turn and fight.

[00:14:20] And all they do is fight.

[00:14:21] Like, no.

[00:14:21] Just run.

[00:14:22] Run.

[00:14:22] Run.

[00:14:23] There's nothing you can do.

[00:14:24] You already shot this thing in the head once.

[00:14:26] It fell.

[00:14:27] And then got back up.

[00:14:28] I don't know how you're going to kill this thing.

[00:14:30] And...

[00:14:31] I...

[00:14:32] I don't think...

[00:14:33] That they're ever going to kill this thing.

[00:14:37] So...

[00:14:38] It is kind of an artsy film.

[00:14:40] Which...

[00:14:40] I know a lot of...

[00:14:41] I did see a lot of people complaining about.

[00:14:43] Like, this movie's so boring.

[00:14:44] Like, very little happens.

[00:14:45] Like, no.

[00:14:47] It's...

[00:14:47] Stuff do happen.

[00:14:49] Wait.

[00:14:50] No, that's...

[00:14:51] That's not a very good English thing.

[00:14:53] I...

[00:14:55] Have seen criticisms about...

[00:14:57] This movie got high praise when it came out.

[00:14:58] But now, all these years later, people are criticizing it.

[00:15:01] Like, this movie's so boring.

[00:15:03] No.

[00:15:03] No, it's not.

[00:15:06] Like, I'm not going to sit here and be like,

[00:15:07] Oh, you're just too dumb to understand it.

[00:15:09] It's nuanced.

[00:15:10] No, no.

[00:15:11] It's...

[00:15:11] I like it because it's a slower movie.

[00:15:14] Like, when it first happens...

[00:15:17] What's...

[00:15:18] What's kind of annoying in some of these horror movies

[00:15:21] were, like...

[00:15:21] There's, like, a setup like this.

[00:15:24] Where, like...

[00:15:25] They are told...

[00:15:26] Here's the setup.

[00:15:28] And here's what you gotta do.

[00:15:30] And...

[00:15:31] In all these movies, they're so quick to believe it.

[00:15:34] And this one, she...

[00:15:36] You know, she doesn't believe it.

[00:15:37] They actually call the police.

[00:15:40] Because...

[00:15:41] Well, if you've seen the movie, you know why they call the police.

[00:15:44] And...

[00:15:44] She tries to forget it.

[00:15:46] But, like, she can't.

[00:15:47] And then...

[00:15:48] But, like, she remembers what the guy told her.

[00:15:50] The, uh...

[00:15:51] The Jeff guy.

[00:15:52] When they...

[00:15:53] Uh...

[00:15:54] They're in that building and he explains to her,

[00:15:57] I transferred it to you.

[00:15:58] And...

[00:15:59] It's...

[00:16:00] Uh...

[00:16:00] It's gonna keep pursuing you.

[00:16:02] And you can't let it touch you.

[00:16:03] And all that.

[00:16:04] And then...

[00:16:05] She doesn't believe him.

[00:16:05] But then she sees this old lady...

[00:16:08] Slowly walking towards her.

[00:16:10] And she freaks out.

[00:16:12] And she slowly starts to believe it.

[00:16:14] And her friends are like,

[00:16:15] No, no, no.

[00:16:16] That guy just messed with your head.

[00:16:17] And they don't believe her.

[00:16:20] And then...

[00:16:20] Until, like I said, that scene on the beach.

[00:16:22] So, like...

[00:16:24] It is kind of a slow movie.

[00:16:25] But, like, in a good way.

[00:16:26] It's, like, believably slow.

[00:16:29] Where, like, they don't just accept the situation, like, immediately.

[00:16:32] And I like that.

[00:16:33] Where it's not like...

[00:16:35] Where he says,

[00:16:36] Oh, I transferred it to you.

[00:16:37] It's gonna pursue you.

[00:16:38] Like, oh, okay.

[00:16:40] No.

[00:16:40] No.

[00:16:41] It's...

[00:16:41] It's not realistic if you do that.

[00:16:44] This one is.

[00:16:45] And I like it.

[00:16:47] It does have kind of an ambiguous ending.

[00:16:49] Where, like...

[00:16:50] Is it still following them?

[00:16:52] Is it just a random person?

[00:16:56] I love that they don't explain that.

[00:16:59] Which...

[00:17:01] I'm getting a call.

[00:17:10] Okay.

[00:17:11] It's an hour later.

[00:17:14] I told her I was recording the podcast.

[00:17:17] And she said,

[00:17:18] Oh, okay.

[00:17:19] And then kept talking.

[00:17:22] And...

[00:17:22] Yep.

[00:17:23] I didn't stop recording because...

[00:17:26] I figured it's easier to edit one long audio file than to split it up.

[00:17:34] But then she talked so long that I forgot what I was talking about.

[00:17:38] So I had to stop.

[00:17:39] And I went ahead and edited everything before this point.

[00:17:43] And I want to say...

[00:17:45] I misspoke at one point.

[00:17:46] I said that I...

[00:17:47] I saw it twice before...

[00:17:52] I saw it once when it first came out.

[00:17:54] And then I saw it again with a friend.

[00:17:56] I...

[00:17:57] I'm...

[00:17:59] I saw it in 2016.

[00:18:01] So in my mind, it's a 2016 film.

[00:18:04] And I keep forgetting that it came out in 2015.

[00:18:07] So I didn't see it when it first came out.

[00:18:09] I actually refused to watch it for like a year after it came out.

[00:18:13] So...

[00:18:14] Yeah.

[00:18:15] Just wanted to point that out.

[00:18:17] Anyway.

[00:18:18] I'm going to move on to...

[00:18:23] Sequel talks.

[00:18:26] Right after this movie came out, people were like,

[00:18:28] Sequel! Sequel! Sequel!

[00:18:29] And I was like,

[00:18:30] No sequel!

[00:18:32] Well...

[00:18:32] One of the best ways to keep a scary movie scary is to keep the mystery.

[00:18:40] That's why the first Alien was so scary.

[00:18:43] Because you very rarely saw the Alien.

[00:18:46] Jaws is scary because you rarely saw the Shark.

[00:18:49] This one, you do see...

[00:18:51] It.

[00:18:53] But...

[00:18:53] You don't know anything about it.

[00:18:56] Where does it come from?

[00:18:58] What is it?

[00:18:59] You don't actually see...

[00:19:01] It's kind of like a bugger.

[00:19:02] You never see its true form.

[00:19:04] You see whatever it wants you to think it is.

[00:19:09] It wants you to see your...

[00:19:12] Wow.

[00:19:13] It wants you to see it as somebody else.

[00:19:16] But you never actually see it.

[00:19:18] What does it look like?

[00:19:20] I don't want to know.

[00:19:22] Not because I'm too scared to know.

[00:19:23] But because I think that would ruin some of the...

[00:19:26] Some of the horror elements.

[00:19:28] Because...

[00:19:31] If there were to do like a whole franchise with this movie.

[00:19:35] And we get like...

[00:19:36] It follows...

[00:19:37] Twelve.

[00:19:38] Or whatever.

[00:19:39] And then we get like...

[00:19:40] The entire backstory...

[00:19:42] Of everything.

[00:19:43] And it goes back to like...

[00:19:44] Ancient Sumeria.

[00:19:46] Or something.

[00:19:47] And like...

[00:19:47] We know everything about it.

[00:19:49] Then...

[00:19:49] It's no longer scary.

[00:19:51] It's like...

[00:19:51] Oh, okay.

[00:19:52] Yeah.

[00:19:52] It does it because...

[00:19:54] Uh...

[00:19:54] A curse was put on it.

[00:19:56] In ancient Egypt.

[00:19:57] Or something.

[00:19:57] I don't know.

[00:19:59] No.

[00:19:59] It's...

[00:20:00] It's scarier not knowing.

[00:20:02] And...

[00:20:03] They've been talking...

[00:20:05] This whole time.

[00:20:07] About doing a sequel.

[00:20:08] And...

[00:20:08] I looked.

[00:20:09] And...

[00:20:10] Earlier this...

[00:20:11] No.

[00:20:11] Last year.

[00:20:13] They were talking about...

[00:20:15] Um...

[00:20:16] The movie is going to be in pre-production.

[00:20:18] A sequel called They Follow.

[00:20:22] And...

[00:20:22] It's basically...

[00:20:23] The plot is...

[00:20:25] That...

[00:20:26] Jay...

[00:20:27] The...

[00:20:28] Uh...

[00:20:28] Uh...

[00:20:29] Micah's character from the first one.

[00:20:33] She basically...

[00:20:35] For whatever reason...

[00:20:36] Goes down the chain and finds out its origin.

[00:20:39] Which is exactly what I didn't want them to do.

[00:20:44] It's kind of like with Smile.

[00:20:46] Like...

[00:20:46] Smile is...

[00:20:47] I don't know why I didn't think about Smile when I was...

[00:20:49] I was trying to come up with examples of what this movie is kind of like.

[00:20:52] I was like...

[00:20:53] Uh...

[00:20:53] Uh...

[00:20:54] The Ring!

[00:20:54] From like...

[00:20:55] 22 years ago.

[00:20:56] Oh my god.

[00:21:00] Um...

[00:21:01] Yeah...

[00:21:03] That...

[00:21:03] Smile is the more recent...

[00:21:05] Relevant example.

[00:21:08] Kind of...

[00:21:09] I mean...

[00:21:09] You don't really have to do anything.

[00:21:11] You just have to witness someone dying...

[00:21:13] To get the curse.

[00:21:15] And...

[00:21:15] When they announced a sequel to Smile...

[00:21:18] I was like...

[00:21:18] No!

[00:21:19] Leave it!

[00:21:20] Leave it!

[00:21:20] And then I...

[00:21:21] I've actually seen the trailers for Smile 2.

[00:21:24] And it actually looks really good.

[00:21:26] And...

[00:21:27] I've seen some of the early reviews.

[00:21:28] And...

[00:21:29] It does seem like it's gonna be good.

[00:21:31] Like...

[00:21:32] I...

[00:21:32] I don't want to know the origin.

[00:21:34] The Smile...

[00:21:34] Creature...

[00:21:35] Thing.

[00:21:36] The curse.

[00:21:36] Don't want to know it.

[00:21:38] Again...

[00:21:39] Not because I'm too scared to know.

[00:21:40] But because that would ruin the mystique.

[00:21:42] Ruin the...

[00:21:43] Ruin the horror of it.

[00:21:45] Ruin the horror of it.

[00:21:46] And...

[00:21:46] It's the same with It Follows.

[00:21:47] I don't want to know.

[00:21:48] The less we know, the scarier it is.

[00:21:52] And...

[00:21:52] It looks like they don't care.

[00:21:54] They just want to crank out those movies.

[00:21:59] So...

[00:22:00] Yeah...

[00:22:02] Of course it's gonna get a sequel.

[00:22:04] But at least...

[00:22:05] They waited.

[00:22:08] Because if...

[00:22:09] If I could think if Hollywood had its way...

[00:22:11] When it was...

[00:22:13] When it had just came out...

[00:22:14] It was really popular.

[00:22:15] Everyone was talking about it.

[00:22:17] And they could have cranked a sequel out the next year.

[00:22:19] So at least...

[00:22:20] At least they waited...

[00:22:22] 10 years to do it.

[00:22:25] But yeah...

[00:22:26] That was It Follows.

[00:22:28] Again...

[00:22:28] It's available to stream on Peacock.

[00:22:31] I do highly recommend watching it.

[00:22:34] It's a...

[00:22:34] It's a very...

[00:22:35] It's a very good...

[00:22:37] Horror movie that I really enjoy.

[00:22:42] And there's not a...

[00:22:43] There's not a whole lot of...

[00:22:45] Like...

[00:22:45] Gore in this.

[00:22:46] There's...

[00:22:46] I think like...

[00:22:48] Um...

[00:22:48] When the creature gets shot a few times...

[00:22:50] And there's blood.

[00:22:51] But like...

[00:22:54] It's nothing like...

[00:22:56] Like I was saying...

[00:22:57] Like some of those other horror movies...

[00:22:58] It's blood, guts, gore!

[00:23:00] It's nothing like that.

[00:23:01] It's like...

[00:23:01] They get shot and then blood flies out.

[00:23:04] That like...

[00:23:04] Hits the wall.

[00:23:05] Goes into a blanket.

[00:23:07] It's...

[00:23:07] Nothing...

[00:23:08] Too...

[00:23:09] Graphic.

[00:23:11] Uh...

[00:23:12] But yeah.

[00:23:13] I'll end it there.

[00:23:15] And cut.
